The Baptism of Christ
Leonardo da Vinci · 1470
Why it's great
John the Baptist pours water on Jesus in a river while angels kneel at the bank. Andrea del Verrocchio painted most of it, but a young Leonardo da Vinci painted the angel on the left and part of the landscape around 1470, and people say Verrocchio was amazed at how good he was.
