Adoration of the Shepherds
Hugo van der Goes · 1480
Why it's great
The shepherds hurry in to see the baby Jesus, and a curtain is pulled back to reveal the scene. Hugo van der Goes painted it in about 1480, and the shepherds' faces are painted with a great deal of feeling.
