John the Baptist in the Wilderness
Geertgen tot Sint Jans · 1480
Why it's great
John the Baptist sits in a green, peaceful landscape with a lamb, resting his head on his hand as if he were daydreaming. Geertgen tot Sint Jans painted it in about 1480, and the animals and plants are painted with great love.
