Prussian Homage
Jan Matejko · 1879
Why it's great
The Duke of Prussia kneels to swear loyalty to the king of Poland in Kraków's central square in 1525. Matejko packed it with portraits of nobles and knights in rich costumes. It's a picture of a time when Poland was strong. It's a national treasure.
