The Rooks Have Returned

Alexei Savrasov Β· 1871

Why it's great

Dark birds perch in birch trees as a little church stands behind, and spring melts the snow. Savrasov painted this in a quiet village, and it became one of the most beloved Russian paintings. It's regarded as the start of a new feeling for Russian landscape. People love it for its quiet, simple beauty.
