Galleria Borghese
A small museum in a palace in a Roman park, with the sculptures of Bernini, a large group of Caravaggio paintings and Titian's Sacred and Profane Love.
History of the museum
Cardinal Scipione Borghese built the villa in the early 1600s as a place to show his art collection, and he supported the young sculptor Bernini and the painter Caravaggio. The building was reorganized in the 1700s, and the collection was acquired by the Italian state in 1902. It opened as a public museum in 1903. To keep it from becoming too crowded, visitors must book a two-hour time slot.
