Kröller-Müller Museum
A museum in the middle of a big national park, with the second-largest collection of Van Gogh in the world, as well as works by Seurat and Mondrian and a great sculpture garden.
History of the museum
Helene Kröller-Müller, who was the wife of a shipping tycoon, began to collect art in 1907 on the advice of an art teacher. She was among the first to buy Van Gogh's paintings in large numbers. In 1935 she gave her collection to the Dutch state, and the museum opened in 1938 in the woods of the Hoge Veluwe. The sculpture garden, one of the biggest in Europe, grew after the Second World War.
