Museo Reina Sofía
Spain's national museum of modern art, in a former hospital in Madrid, is home to Picasso's Guernica, as well as works by Dalí, Miró and Juan Gris.
History of the museum
The building was a big hospital from the 1700s, and it was converted into an art center in the 1980s. The museum opened in 1992. Guernica, Picasso's huge painting of the bombing of a Basque town in 1937, came to Spain from New York in 1981 after Picasso had said it should not go to Spain until the country was a democracy again.
