Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza
A palace on Madrid's Paseo del Prado holds a fine private collection that fills the gaps in the Prado, with paintings from the 1200s to the 1900s from Holbein and Caravaggio to Hopper and Hartley.
History of the museum
Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza, one of Europe's great collectors, put together one of the best private collections of art in the 1900s. Spain rented it in 1988 and bought it in 1993, and it is shown in the Villahermosa Palace. His wife Carmen, a Spanish former beauty queen, helped to bring it to Madrid.
