Cross at Sunset
Thomas Cole Β· 1848
Why it's great
A tall wooden cross stands on a hillside in a glowing sunset, with a lake below. Thomas Cole, born in England and raised in America, painted this landscape with a feeling of faith. The calm, golden light is moving. It's a quiet, spiritual picture.
