A Ship on the High Seas Caught by a Squall, Known as ‘The Gust’
Willem van de Velde the Younger · 1680
Why it's great
A sailing ship leans over in a sudden gust, with the sea swirling and the sky dark and bright at the same time. Willem van de Velde the Younger painted it in about 1680, and it is called The Gust.
