Dutch Golden Age

In the 1600s the Dutch Republic was one of the richest places on Earth, and ordinary merchants bought pictures for their homes. Painters turned to portraits, quiet rooms, stormy seas, ice-skating villages and still lifes of cheese and oysters. Look for window light, tiny details and clever hidden symbols.
