The Gallant Conversation, known as Paternal Admonition

Gerard ter Borch · 1654

Why it's great

A man in a dark coat speaks to a young woman in a fine satin dress, who looks down while drinking, as a woman behind them looks at us. Gerard ter Borch painted it in about 1654, and his beautiful silk has been admired for centuries.
