Woman with a Child in a Pantry
Pieter de Hooch Β· 1656
Why it's great
A woman holds a child by the hand in a small pantry with a view to a sunlit courtyard. Pieter de Hooch painted it in about 1656, and the paving and the doors make a careful design of squares.
