The Stoning of Saint Stephen

Rembrandt Β· 1624

Why it's great

Men throw stones at Saint Stephen, who kneels with his eyes turned toward heaven. Rembrandt painted it in 1625 when he was only 18 or 19, and the young Saul, who is watching, is a self-portrait.
