A Wooded Marsh

Jacob van Ruisdael Β· 1660

Why it's great

A swampy forest with dead trees and murky water, under a heavy sky with a distant light. Jacob van Ruisdael painted it in about 1660, and the quiet moodiness of the scene is full of feeling.
