The Avenue at Middelharnis
Meindert Hobbema Β· 1689
Why it's great
A long, straight road goes down the middle of the picture between tall, thin trees, with a village, a farmer and a pair of walkers. Meindert Hobbema painted it in 1689, and it is his most famous picture.
