The Windmill at Wijk bij Duurstede
Jacob van Ruisdael Β· 1670
Why it's great
A huge windmill stands on a dike by a river, under a sky of great clouds, with a little boat on the water. Jacob van Ruisdael painted it in about 1670, and it is one of the most famous pictures of the Netherlands.
