A Young Artist (Ditlev Blunck) Examining a Sketch in a Mirror

Wilhelm Bendz Β· 1826

Why it's great

A young man in a dressing gown sits in a studio, holding his drawing up to a mirror to see it with fresh eyes, a trick that artists use. Wilhelm Bendz, a Danish painter, painted his friend. The mirror shows what he's missed. It's a clever and thoughtful picture.
