'After Dark'
Jozef Israëls · 1888
Why it's great
A family sits in a dark house, with a single lamp lighting their faces. Jozef Israëls painted the calm and warmth of simple lives in Dutch homes. The glow of the lamp is gentle. It's a cozy, quiet scene.
