Dreams
Jozef Israëls · 1860
Why it's great
A young woman lies in the grass above the sea, lost in daydreams. Jozef Israëls, a Dutch painter of Jewish background, was the leader of the Hague School and often painted quiet, thoughtful moments. The soft light and dreamy pose invite you to wonder what she is thinking. It's a gentle picture of imagination.
