The Pink Dress
Frédéric Bazille · 1864
Why it's great
A young woman in a pink dress sits with her back turned, gazing at a village on a sunlit hill in southern France. Bazille painted it for his family, using bold light in the open air. The style looks forward to Impressionism. It's among his most famous works.
