The Beloved

Dante Gabriel Rossetti Β· 1865

Why it's great

A bride, surrounded by attendants, lifts her veil, as a young Black child offers a bouquet of flowers. Rossetti painted this scene inspired by a Bible poem. It's rich with colors and details. It's one of his finest.
