Roman Widow

Dante Gabriel Rossetti Β· 1874

Why it's great

A woman in a long, dark dress with a hooded cloak, with a sad, strong look, in a Roman setting. Rossetti painted Alexa Wilding as a classic widow. The colors and shapes are bold. It's a statuesque portrait.
