Beata Beatrix
Dante Gabriel Rossetti Β· 1872
Why it's great
A woman with closed eyes sits with her head tilted back, while a bird drops a poppy into her hands. Rossetti painted it after the death of his wife Elizabeth Siddal. The figure is Beatrice from Dante's poems. It's a picture of love and grief.
