The Blessed Damozel
Dante Gabriel Rossetti Β· 1871
Why it's great
A woman leans down from heaven over a golden bar, her arms folded, as lovers below on Earth remember each other. Rossetti painted it from his own poem. The picture is full of golden hair, lilies and angels. It's a rich, dreamy Victorian picture.
