The Shadow of Death

William Holman Hunt Β· 1873

Why it's great

A young Jesus, working in a carpenter's shop, stretches out his arms, and the shadow forms a cross on the wall behind. His mother looks on, feeling fear. Hunt painted it in the Holy Land. It's one of the most famous images of Jesus as a boy.
