Children of the Sea
Jozef Israëls · 1872
Why it's great
Two children play at the water's edge in a Dutch fishing village, wearing simple clothes. Jozef Israëls spent summers in the fishing village of Zandvoort and painted its people. The soft light on the sand and sea is lovely. It's a charming and moving image of childhood by the sea.
