Allegory of the Dutch victory over the Spanish fleet at Gibraltar, 25 April 1607
Adam Willaerts Β· 1615
Why it's great
Dutch ships set fire to Spanish ones in a crowded sea battle, with fire, smoke and splashes. Adam Willaerts painted it in about 1615 to celebrate a Dutch victory at Gibraltar in 1607.
