Breakfast I. The Artist's Mother and Brother
Gustav Wentzel · 1882
Why it's great
A mother and son sit at a simple breakfast table in a warm, bright room. Gustav Wentzel painted this scene of his own family, in a very honest and everyday way. Many Norwegian painters of the 1880s wanted to show real life as it was. It's a cozy and truthful picture.
