Efterårsmorgen ved Sortedamssøen
Christen Købke · 1838
Why it's great
A quiet autumn morning along a lake in Copenhagen, with the soft light on the water and a few people along the shore. Christen Købke, a Danish Golden Age painter, painted this view of Sortedam Lake in 1838. The cool air is nearly felt. It's one of the most beloved Danish paintings.
