Mary Magdalene
Frederick Sandys Β· 1858
Why it's great
A woman with long red hair holds a jar of ointment and looks out, in a richly colored background, with a Renaissance feel. Frederick Sandys painted her as a famous character in the Bible. The details of the jewelry and fabrics are dazzling. It's a celebrated Pre-Raphaelite portrait.
