Old Pine Trees

Lars Hertervig · 1865

Why it's great

Twisted old pine trees stand in a glowing light, painted with a very quiet and unusual touch. Lars Hertervig was a Norwegian painter who suffered from mental illness and lived a hard, poor life, but he made some of the most beautiful and dreamy landscapes in Norwegian art. His pictures glow with an inner light. He is now admired as one of Norway's greatest painters.
