Coastal landscape at moonlight
Cornelius Krieghoff Β· 1866
Why it's great
A bright moon shines over a rocky coast and calm sea, painting a silver path on the water. Cornelius Krieghoff painted many moonlit scenes that were popular with buyers. The mood is dreamy. It's a quiet night view.

Cornelius Krieghoff was born in Amsterdam and moved to North America as a young man. He lived in Montreal and Quebec, where he painted lively scenes of French-Canadian farm life and winter. His humorous pictures made him one of Canada's most popular painters. He died in Chicago in 1872.
