Chippewas Hunting Caribou

Cornelius Krieghoff Β· 1861

Why it's great

Anishinaabe (Chippewa) hunters track caribou through the woods and along a stream. Cornelius Krieghoff painted this to show life he'd seen in the northern wilderness. The trees and small figures show how large the land was. It's an important image of Indigenous hunting.
