Perseus Freeing Andromeda
Piero di Cosimo Β· 1510
Why it's great
The hero Perseus fights a sea monster, rescuing the princess Andromeda who is chained to a rock. Piero di Cosimo painted it in about 1510, and the monster looks more like a funny dragon than a scary creature.

Piero di Cosimo was a Florentine painter born in 1461. He liked painting mythical stories with strange creatures and wild nature, and he had a reputation as an eccentric who lived on hard-boiled eggs. He died in 1522.
