The Death of Procris

Piero di Cosimo Β· 1495

Why it's great

A nymph lies dying beside the sea, while a faun kneels at her side and a dog watches sadly. Piero di Cosimo painted this tender, strange scene in about 1495, based on a story from Ovid's Metamorphoses.
