Calumny of Apelles

Sandro Botticelli Β· 1497

Why it's great

A king sits on a throne with donkey's ears while two women whisper lies in his ears, and a figure of Truth, a naked woman, points up to the sky. Sandro Botticelli painted it in about 1497, based on a lost painting described in ancient texts.
