Cestello Annunciation

Sandro Botticelli Β· 1489

Why it's great

The angel Gabriel arrives, bowing very low, and Mary leans away in surprise, in a room that opens onto a garden. Sandro Botticelli painted it in 1489, and the sweeping lines make the figures seem to dance.
