Apollo and Marsyas
Pietro Perugino Β· 1497
Why it's great
The god Apollo and the satyr Marsyas compete in music, and the god sits on a rock holding a violin-like instrument. Pietro Perugino painted it in 1497, and the story is told in Greek myth.
