Sumpflegende
Paul Klee Β· 1919
Why it's great
A swamp full of strange plants, shapes and creatures in a dreamy, watery landscape. Paul Klee, a Swiss-German painter, painted the picture as a small, playful world made of lines and colors. His art feels like a fairy tale or a game. It's a fun picture to explore.

Paul Klee was born near Bern, Switzerland, to a musical family and was also a talented violinist. He taught at the Bauhaus, a famous art school in Germany, and later fled the Nazis to Switzerland. His playful, imaginative paintings use lines, colors and symbols as if they were music. He died in Switzerland in 1940.
