The Battle of Svolder

Otto Sinding Β· 1883

Why it's great

At the sea battle of Svolder in the year 1000, King Olav Tryggvason's famous ship the Long Serpent was surrounded by enemy ships. According to the sagas he leapt overboard rather than be captured. Otto Sinding painted it in 1883.
