The Chocolate Girl

Jean-Étienne Liotard · 1744

Why it's great

A maid carries a tray with a glass of water and a cup of hot chocolate, all painted with fine precision. Liotard worked in pastels and made this in Vienna. A Dresden collector bought it and it hangs in the Old Masters Gallery there. It's one of the most famous pastel paintings.
