The Lady with a Fan, The Artist's Wife

Alexander Roslin · 1768

Why it's great

A woman in a splendid blue satin gown holds a fan, with a calm smile. Roslin painted his wife Marie-Suzanne Giroust, a talented artist herself. The shimmering fabric is a marvel. It's one of the great portraits of the 1700s.
