Lady Cockburn and Her Three Eldest Sons
Joshua Reynolds Β· 1773
Why it's great
A mother sits in a classical pose, as her three little boys cuddle around her, one of them hugging her neck. Reynolds painted it to resemble a famous Renaissance painting of a holy family. The affection feels real. It's a charming family portrait.
