Anne Vallayer-Coster Β· 1773
Why it's great
A man in a green coat holds a violin as he glances out, with a bow in his hand. Anne Vallayer-Coster was a French painter, and one of the few women admitted to the French Royal Academy of Painting. She was famous for still lifes, and this is an unusual portrait. It's a lovely picture of music.
