The Crucifixion
Lucas Cranach the Elder Β· 1532
Why it's great
Christ hangs on the cross against a dark sky, and the people around him are tiny. Lucas Cranach the Elder painted it in 1532, and his clear colors and cold light give it a strong feeling.
