Belvedere
A pair of baroque palaces with beautiful gardens in Vienna, which hold the world's largest collection of Gustav Klimt, including The Kiss.
History of the museum
Prince Eugene of Savoy, a famous general, had the Belvedere palaces built in the early 1700s. The imperial art collection was displayed here from 1781. Since 1903 the palace has also housed a modern gallery, which bought Klimt's The Kiss in 1908 straight from his studio, when it was first shown, for a huge sum.
