Leopold Museum
A modern white limestone cube in Vienna's MuseumsQuartier shows the largest collection of Egon Schiele paintings in the world, and important works by Klimt and Vienna's Secession artists.
History of the museum
Rudolf Leopold, a doctor and collector, spent his life buying works by Egon Schiele when they were unfashionable. In 1994 the Austrian government bought his collection, with around 5,000 pieces, for a foundation, and the museum, designed by Ortner & Ortner, opened in 2001.
