Bacchus

Caravaggio Β· 1590

Why it's great

A young man in a white toga, with grapes in his hair, offers you a glass of wine, and a bowl of fruit and a pitcher stand before him. Caravaggio painted it in about 1595, and the god's face may be that of his friend or his own.
